What product does Cadsoft use to develop parametric BIM objects in their catalogs?   Is this an internal product or something else?  Could this be released to or “Turned On” for Construction Suite level users to develop new or improved BIM objects to share with the community?

    Thanks,  Jeff

Forgive my questioning, are you making models and trying to figure out how to pack them up so others can install your creations to the programs?

Yes,  If I go to all the trouble of developing an item.  It would be nice to be able to share it in a way that others can utilize it.  I have tried to download BIM items like light fixtures etc.  but without the ability to adjust parameters, the fixture does nor render and light the room appropriately.  I am just exploring whether other tools are available to build catalog items.  Having an open source condition or license seems to me to be something that would greatly benefit all designer / users.

Watch this and pay close attention starting at about the 2:25 mark up through the 3:30 mark.

I’ve always used and heard the term – Normals – he does not say that word, he says “faces turned the right way” my terminology is, sounds like you are dealing with some flipped normals. Hope this helps!

If you need a modeling program to build your content, I recommend Wings3D it’s free and will save out as 3ds files

    Hi Jeffrey,

This is a bit basic and may not fit your needs, but you can add your 3D models to plan view in a bld file.

When you share that bld file, anyone can open it and go to File / Catalog > Save Element to Catalog , then click on your model. It is added to the Catalog,

If more than one model is in the bld, simply repeat Save Element step.
