I have an item on my wish list to build a vacation home in Colorado. I’ve created a basic model of the home I want to build in Personal Architect – but I’m no architect or experienced designer. Since I need more detailed drawings which are reviewed and “stamped” by an engineer I’d like to find a Designer or Architect that can start with my basic plans and create a higher quality & “stamped” design. It would be nice to leverage the work I’ve already done in Personal Architect. Does anyone know someone or have suggestions for how to find a Designer/Architect in Colorado that could start with my plans and save some money for completing the design drawings?
On a different topic relating to Colorado, does anyone have a good explanation of why cost of construction in Colorado is 2X (or more) than in Texas? I don’t see that much difference in cost of materials. I know that building for the colder climate adds some cost – but not enough to explain the cost difference. It is hard to believe that labor costs or profit margins would be 2X to 3X higher to end up with an overall cost of 2X higher. I thought this price differential was due to supply/demand and delivery costs to a rural area, yet I see a similar price ($/sqft) in the larger cities (Colorado Springs & Denver).
