Hi Folks,
I have a question for our users out there in regards to the Material Usage feature. How many of you use this feature and if so in what ways are you using it? Did you find the feature to be annoying and have turned off the notification altogether? Do you make sure to apply the correct usages to the material when you add in any custom materials?
If you do not use the feature or not sure what I am referring to, it is used when you go to apply a material to an object. If the Material Usage is not set up to use the element you are attaching it to you will get a message warning you. This was implemented to help prevent accidental application of a material to an element that would never use that material. An example would be applying a Brick material to a Cabinet, this would trigger the message box asking if you really want to apply Brick to a Cabinet.
If you can comment below on your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick
I use “wrong” materials every so often on purpose and look at the warning message as just a reminder.
Hi Nick,
Always OFF for me.

Rarely see the warning so it doesn’t bother me
Hi Nic,
Always OFF for me also.
Also on every new install I un-tick the “Navigation Control” or the on-screen Track-ball. Yet to find a user who thinks its a useful feature!

Well you found one now. I’m a mouse-when-I-can user rather than the keyboard for this product.
Edit: Quotes don’t work like I expected in Visual Mode. How to separate my reply from quote? Had to go to Text tab…
I switch off both MATERIAL USAGE and NAVIGATION CONTROL
