So I have to ask this because it’s been bugging me since I heard there was this previous forum that had a big, busy community full of input and inspiration…but apparently went the way of the Atlanteans simply because Cadsoft changed forum platforms.

It just doesn’t make sense that a forum with a large user base and vibrant community would atrophy to the current state of affairs (no offense intended to the current community…all 5 of us). I mean, sure…so the company changes forum software because of some ‘bug’ or whatever…all of those customers…users of the company’s software don’t simply just disappear, or stop using said forum.

Where, exactly did all of these former forum posters go to? Chief Architect?

A simple search of Youtube will reveal that the only users creating any content with this software are company folks…and that my friends is very, very strange indeed. If there is a large user-base, then that user-base will make videos…How-to’s, Look What I can Do’s, Reviews, Complaints…this is what users of ANY software do…

But there is virtually no content for Cadsoft…created by retail users. So what gives here?

This link from 2011 shows some of the past users entries into a monthly Design Challenge Cadsoft had.  The forum was full of submittals at that time.

Envisioneer Design Challenge Competition Entries 2011 – YouTube

All I can think of is that new uses have a ton of online you tube Cadsoft created videos on various topics.

They also have better customer support / training and even promote Design / Drawing and 3D services. So as a company they are taking on more of the load.

Why all the ‘old’ users disappeared is beyond me.

    OH MY OH MY,

Jack i would really like to hear the story behind your ocean house wow.!! That’s impressive!! And that turret on the first house i have a possible upcoming job with one of those, client didn’t quite pull trigger on it yet. Just in the preliminary stage of the blueprint yet. And he’s still kicking 3D around. I’m hoping like crazy that he decides to do it cause it would be my job by far up to this point.

Wish that was going on now. That would be an absolute blast. And Yea SDS i wish to that the users wouldn’t have dried up and got blown out into the ocean somewhere.

    Hi Conrad,

I did tests to see how far I could push the program. One of the results was the Curved House.

It started with playing with walls and surfaces / pads to see if I could make something different. Ended with the attached ‘patio floor’ detail.

From there I got into Roofs, made a set of roof training videos. Sold a few, but not worth the 2 months put into it.

I got a kick out of curved roofs and like the way ‘Battle of the Bulge’ roof turn out looking framed and as a building.

Then did the Cliff house to test curved walls / roofs and ground / background materials.

And loving Iron Man’s house, I did the curved ocean house to see if I could. It actually turned out to be a simple process once I worked out things.

The  Turret House was for a builder. I even have a side by side of the rendering and the real house. Cadsoft displays it sometimes at Builder Shows.

I attached the sideby image of real and rendered too.

    Wow!

That’s some great stuff there Jack.

1: Great logo design That is very unique.

2: I am extremely intrigued by that battle of the bulge and those rounded roofs, i need to play with it sometime. Is that an actual truss system?

3: That cliff house is very interesting. But I’d like to know how you made that cliff? That took a lot of time i bet.

4: Fabulous job on the last one, that is a great side by side doesn’t get more real and lifelike than that.:)

These will all be saved into a folder with other people renders i like to keep and look at for ideas and tips on how they’re shown when I’m doing a job i need ideas on.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Conrad

A rather interesting way to derail a thread too…

I’ll point out how extremely odd it is to have a Cadsoft-sponsored, user-generated ‘design challenge’ video…from 2011…long before this other forum went away…and not a single user has commented on that video in the last 10 years.

Bonus round…the single most-viewed post on this forum, by a considerable margin, is the one about the change to the new forum…stranger and stranger.

Does anyone have stats on the # of users Cadsoft claims? Do they report these numbers?

They recently invited me to tell them some of the reasons why I was not upgrading to v15 at this time so I wrote them a letter listing a few of those reasons…I have not heard back from them yet.

One of those reasons was the abysmal state of community for their software…

Just the opposite SDS, no intent on my part to Derail this Topic.

My posts are to demonstrate the type of discussions / interactions that a good forum produces. My personal opinion is that the people at Cadsoft have made efforts to get more participation.  I get news, email updates and they always mention this Forum. (Community as they call it)

I have no answers to your sales question but do know they are one of the most busy booths at the IBS.

Sorry Jack, didn’t mean to offend if I did…gave up coffee a couple years ago and mornings are still a little unpredictable!

I just know this forum and (lack of) community is an anomaly, it intrigues me because the software is worthy so why the lack of users (a rhetorical question now)

Back in the day, I remember talking with the guy that got me into autocad, we’d fantasize about being able to “stand in the room and design” and lo & behind we can now! He died a few years ago unfortunately and never got a change to experience it but I know he would definitely have a copy of Pro Architect installed!

I do appreciate Cadsoft, and all it’s flaws too 🙂

    Try Pepsi, cold caffine 🙂

I just cleared my internet cache , like I always do.

Now I want to check the Forum and must login in again.

I have been logging in and logging in for the last 20 minutes. After logging in I get to page that has option to Log Out. So I must be Logged In before I can Log Out.

So, I come back to the Forum, and it says I have to Log In before I can post or see posted images, but I can read posts.

So , I Log In again, go to page that says I can Log Out if I want. But I don’t so I click on Community and it says I must Log In to Post.

    So I Log In again.

    Don’t click Log Out

    Back to Community

    Says I must Log In

    So I Log in again

    Don’t click Log Out

    Back to Community

Says I must Log in Again.

—————————– and some how I got here to post.   Wonder how many other people are having this same issue.

Really,  I’ve never tried with Firefox or Chrome.

Maybe there are a ton of users that have given up on Login ?   Maybe that is why some posts have 90 views and 4 comments. I could view but not comment.

I’ve contacted Cadsoft. They are looking into Login and cookies. When you clear cache and lose your Cookies, you must login again.

Same here Jack. If I do not get on forum every day I will have to log in the next time I try to view.

    I also have Microsoft Edge.

Yes nice thought Jack that might be what is happening.

I had even talked with cadsoft about it and they had suggested that i erase all my cookies and data etc. to see if that helps and it did not, i should have told them again and was going to but never got around to it (and they even told me tell them if it doesn’t my fault sorry).
