It seems every time i open a bld file, my terrain height is rendered differently in 3d views.  Since upgrading to V15 resetting the terrain grade level has no effect.  Can anyone assist in determining what may be wrong?

    G’day Jeffrey!

Are you able to provide screen clips?

Can you explain what you’re trying to achieve?

Prior to v15 it was called Base Level.

Grade Level seems to be a completely different beast now.

What’s new https://www.cadsoft.com/v15/ doesn’t really provide any specific guidance except regarding importing terrain.

    v14 Help says:
    Terrain Mesh
Base Level. The level (elevation) at which the base of the terrain sits. This value is measured from 0.

    v15 Help says:
    Terrain Mesh
Base Level. The level (elevation) at which the base of the terrain sits. This value is measured from 0.

So they’ve changed the name (and it would seem it’s function as well) but online Help hasn’t changed at all

My expectation & previous experience allowed the base level / grade level to act like the elevate command and raise or lower the entire terrain.  there seems to be no effect when adjusting that parameter. The Terrain is displayed 2′ higher than my original design (see yellow arrow).  My expected grade level is similar to Terrain 2.

I still have EV13 & EV14 installed on the computer. When I try to open older version, I get an error message: (See Terrain 3)

“Unable to access the requested template file.

The file may be in use or not have sufficient access rights. 0”

Do I need to remove previous versions of EV?  Maybe reinstall EV15?

    Hi Jeffery,

I think the program has a bug in the terrain setting.

I tested dropping the terrian and nothing happened. I will check further and if needed report it as a bug.

I have successfully save as a v14 file and opened a bld in it without a problem. Did you do a save as and switch to the older version when you got the error.

I also was able open an older version 13-14 in v15. So I don’t think it is an issue with the program. Possibly with the folder it is stored in. Try moving a bld to your desktop of the older version and see if it opens in v15.

I have run multiple versions without problems.

    Hi Jeffery,

I was able to get an answer from support.

The terrain is now Grade Level and the Model is raised or lowered in Building Location. If you  were to enter 10′ in Terrain Grade level, the program reads your Building Location setting and adjusts the model to the new grade, so it appears nothing happens.

If you slope the Terrian, that slope starts at the Grade Level.

To adjust the model, you then just work with the Building Location Settings to achieve the desired elevation.

v15 new release is available now. And the ‘Help’ file will be updated in the near future to represent this Grade Level change.

With the V15 – c2 upgrade the terrain grade level in the view just continues to rise with no adjustments (see Attached) .  So to clarify, Grade Level does nothing!

I must adjust building locations to adjust grade level?

Which parameters?   Floor level of each location?

Yes , adjust in  Building Location .  Only need to adjust one level , the  Ground Floor – (Floor Level) option.

Enter the new Floor Level of the Ground Floor and click OK.

A notice will come up asking if you also want to update all other levels. affected. Click Yes.

Thank you!  It seems a lot harder than the old terrain adjustments!

just guessing Jeffrey, but it may have changed because of the upgraded terrain option for tin meshes, where you enter heights individually or through import of points.

In order for this new ‘smarter’ terrain to retain grade points you enter, it cannot be messed with. So the solution is to adjust the building to the terrain.

As I say, I’m just guessing this is the reason.
