I am trying to update catalogs and I cannot get any of the BIM files to download to my computer so that I can import them into the catalog.  I have read the Importing BIM Catalogs instructions and the files I am trying to download are the ones on the Cadsoft site.  I get jibberish and nothing ever downloads.  Locks up my computer.

Any words of wisdom out there to help?

    G’day Debbie!
Do you mean Chantales instructions here:
    https://www.cadsoft.com/importing-bim-catalogs/
Using Win 10 here, if I click on a DOWNLOAD button, it immediately opens Edge & I get “jibberish”
If I rt-click – SAVE TARGET AS – it wants to saveas html . . . definitel NOT what I want!
However, if I copy the address https://www.cadsoft.com/bim-catalogs/
and then paste it into my default browser, press DOWNLOAD, I’m given the option to OPEN or SAVE.
So I go to Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsDefault ProgramsSet Associations
and set SeaMonkey to open .htm & .html files. Once again I click the link in Envisioneer, it still opens Edge, same old story.
I have a sneaking suspicion but would be labelled “paranoid” or “conspiracy theorist” if I published it here.

    Hi Debbie!

What Internet Browser are you using?

I have tested the “Download” button on the BIM files with Google Chrome and Firefox and both react the same. It pulls up a dialog box asking you to “Save File”  or “Open with” . Ensure you select “Save File”. This will download the .bim file to your computer. You can then import it to Envisioneer.

Thanks Merv.  We are on Windows 10 and Edge does seem to be an issue.   I won’t get back to this until this evening, but will try a different browser.

    Thanks

Thanks Chantale.  Hope all is well with you guys.  We are on Windows 10.  It appears Edge seems to be the issue.  Merv described what I am experiencing perfectly.   I will try through Chrome tonight or tomorrow and see what happens.

BTW, is there anywhere else that one can find files with .bim extension?

    Merv,
Thanks for the help.  It worked when I copied the URL and went to Chrome.

The BIM download page has now been updated and it works with Edge now too.

    Enjoy!
