    Hello

Just wondering if anyone could help me with this. when doing the floor plans and section drawings instead of being on line when you highlight an area there are a bazillion of them. short ones, dots and i’m tired of deleted them out and stretching one line to reach across. to me it just takes to much time is there another way of doing this or do you guys just not worry about it. for printing purposes it stinks if there are a couple lines on top of each other. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Conrad

    G’day Conrad!

    Can you be more specific?

What elements do these bazillion lines represent? You should be able to determine that using the Layer(s) on which the lines in the SmartView reside.

Are these elements parametric? or imported objects?

That shows you how dumb I am. i never thought to check the layer to see what it really is. I see now what is the problem (see pic below. the window below is not to bad but I don’t have a file that is very bad right now look at outside trim line) it’s seeing all these objects inside of the house, the lines and dots are staiways, cabinets, members, beams, lights or anything else that is inside the house.  I feel  embarrassed now that I see this and realize i was to dumb to realize what is going on. what a waste of time it was always selecting the window etc. and deleting it out and changing it to the layer I wanted.

Are you using the Hidden Line or Patterned option (under Display mode) for elevations & sections?

sorry don’t know how the extra got in at the start.

hey I got another question I do work for people who use autocad and they have 12 layer settings with they’re preferred names. before this I just selected the things I wanted in worksheet view and changed it to their layer name etc. but i’m wondering is their a way  I can change the default setting so that instead of having 7 window layer there’s just one for all windows accessories and instead of all the different wall layers on  just change it to one and so forth. and have it on just their template. I tried changing the layer to the same name but it doesn’t let you use the same name twice the only way I could figure it out was to numbers behind it but now i’m thinking I know there’s a better way and i’m to dumb to know it.

thanks again for you’re help above merv.

    G’day again Conrad!

In the properties of each Element, you can specify what layer each component should be placed on.

So first you’ll need to add all the other party’s standard Layers in your current job then your template file prior to starting another project for them.

Once all those standard Layers are available, changing all the elements you expect to use could be a big job! If you use hatched elevations etc, you’ll also have to change the Pattern properties for each component.

I’d suggest you have a separate Catalogue specifically for that client.

Merv (who is now heading to bed for a well-earned rest – even half a day with 5 grandies can be a bit tiring)

/later OOPS (was that an AutoCAD command? or one of Brian Hunter’s specials in APDesign?) I forgot to include the pic . .

K thanks for the help Merv,

And I’m sure you deserve the rest after you were babysitting you’re grandkids. and yes that does look like a big job doing like you’re pic I think what i’m going to try and do is go into the layer settings catalog on a totally separate template and just rename the layers for example. all the walls I will change to WALLS and numbers behind like: WALLS1 WALLS2 and so forth hopefully that will work, I had thought about doing it the other way like you’re pic but that would take a crazy amount of time. and I’m also having a problem when I export it to a DWG for them it seems like my line weights do not stay at the correct weight when they import it into autocad after I sent it to. (they do have an older version) any ideas my problem or there’s.

And also not sure what you mean by: (was that an AutoCAD command? or one of Brian Hunter’s specials in APDesign?) ??????

By the way never saw Australia (but met a guy when I was in California) who was from there and he gave me a ballcap from Sydney AUS.

    Conrad
