    Hello Everyone:

I’m having a problem when exporting Dwg’s that my dimensions are jumping attached below are two pics of it. I was just curious if this is happening to anyone else or if anybody experienced this, and if so how did you fixed it? FynrDzynr I would be happy if you would comment on this as I know you know something about autocad. I don’t use Autocad but I do prints for someone who does and that where he prints it out of and this is just a problem.

    G’day Conrad!

Can you post a sample bld? What version are you using? Also what version of AutoCad is your associate using?

Unable to duplicate here. Quick wall layout, Auto exterior dims, export to dwg.

Opened that in DwgTruView 2018 which looked better than v15’s dims in Model View in which dimension lines encroach into the dimension text.

Back in Env v15, insert SmartView. The dimension lines no longer encroach (I believe this issue has already been reported)

Then below that Import the dwg (cropped just to show 3 rows of dims for comparison)

Looks just as I’d expect. However you’re using Imperial units, different dimstyles etc . .

PS iirc there was an issue several years ago where different versions of Acad interpreted Envisioneer’s exports slightly differently. Unable to recall the details though. I think Nick Cudmore looked into it for me

    PPS

no idea why the Community doesn’t allow dwg files! I’ll have to reply to be able to attach the error msg

    And here’s the error

I’m not quite sure I understand the issue in your attached pics Conrad…is it the difference in height the text is above the dimension line?

Autocad has variables to control all aspects of dimensions, where envisioneer is rather limited, including the height of text above dim line, my guess is these are the droids you’re looking for.

…if that is the issue you’re referring to…

    SDS,

Yes you can adjust the text above the line setting go to dimension style setting> click on SELECT>double click on the style you want or use and then go to the setting in pic below

    FynrDzynr,

Ok I think I have everything here that you want to see.

After I export files I look at them in Autodesk trueview 2020 I can’t work on anything there but I can see how it looks.

And he has Autocad 2004 version LT

I’m using version 15 building essentials. where the dimensions are in the bld. that’s the way I want them to be, Look at 1 floor plan in worksheet view which is where I imported it out of.

    Thanks Conrad

    G’day Conrad!

    The bld file opened OK.

I note a discrepancy between the model (where the slash actually crosses the dimension line) and SmartView’s interpretation (where the slash is ever so slightly above it.

But the difference between dimensions in the dwg is very obvious in TrueView. At a quick glance I’m unable to see a logical pattern. But I’m so thankful Australia began metricating 50 years ago – one of the smartest things we ever did imho.

May I ask what your associate does in LT2004 once you’ve delivered the dwg files?

    Hello FynrDzynr,

Sure you may ask. He likes to finish it out in AutoCad cause they have a little more 2D drawing capabilities, I’m trying to mimic ACAD as close as I can, and I think I’m almost there. It’s just that he likes his text style and line weights and hatching Etc.  But it can get very confusing as in ACAD there scale is done in inches (or so I understand) and in Cadsoft it’s done in fractions, so all my line weights and text etc. is done in the hundredth of a fraction to match his exact style but there are some things I just can’t figure out. like the aforementioned dimension problem. If metricating it would simply it I’d be all for it but the first contractor that would get a print like that would throw the book at me.

    G’day again Conrad!

I had hoped Donald would have the guts to get the metrication ball rolling. I just can’t understand why USA always wants to distance itself from its English roots but clings to their Imperial system! But would each State have to agree? or would he just issue an “executive order”?

However, Donald is one smart cookie. He is probably aware of Queensland’s “Can do Campbell” who tried to make too many changes too quickly.

Back to your situation though. Could you emulate in Building Essentials what your associate does in LT2004 fairly easily? If so, you get more work & just have to supply pdf’s.

    Hello FynrDzynr,

Haha maybe he just needs four more years to the dislike of a lot of people. All I can say is people are building houses like crazy, lumber markets are higher than I can ever remember (treated lumber was almost extinct for a while our neighbor built a big pole barn and they could not get any treated lumber so they built it and now need to come back and put it in wants they get it.) Don’t know if he could do an executive order or not, and instead of getting the states to agree he would prolly have to get congress to agree. which kinda like shooting a fish in a barrel which is actually not very easy or so they say.

And yes i’m trying to do that to my Building Essentials But for some reason the hatching on the elevations comes out darker than it should be. Not shore if the line weights vary a little between Acad and Cadsoft or not, both are set at .25mm and this is definitely darker and the sand hatching I have set at 8 or 12 not sure right now and that comes out looking like you put a whole pile of ballpoint pen marks over the paper. And I use pdf995 should I be using another pdf printer.

    Thanks Conrad

I normally set hatching to a 18 virtual pen

I’ve used Broadgun’s pdfMachine for many years. Highly recommend it. Batch plots to a single pdf, sheet order can be manipulated, faulty sheets can be replaced . . .

Thanks Merv tried the Broadgun’s pdf machine and i love it. Looks much better than my previous pdf writers.

But not sure what you mean by a 18 virtual pen.

check out the pdfMachine online help. It does more than just printing. You can have multiple configurations. eg  one config will automatically print a watermark to indicate a draft copy (Not for Construction)

Pronounced One Eight, denoting a pen thickness of 0.18mm

Pen thickness . . . .18, .25, .35, .5, .7 iirc there were about 20 different pens (yes, real pens) that a wide format pen plotter would pick up & draw lines as the paper was rolled back & forth then return to the carousel & cap it (so they didn’t dry out) before selecting a different thickness pen.

There were different ranges of pens for printing on transparency to those for paper

Think the last 2 decades of the previous millennium! My first interaction with a pen plotter was in 1988, the last in 1995, irc

My first inkjet was a Canon BJ-330 for which developers actually wrote drivers to enable its use with CAD programmes (as opposed to text-based programmes for word-processing, databases etc)

ah, the good old days – NOT!

thus endeth this history lesson . . .
