Just wondered what regular users of the the workseets, for doing major plans, found best:

Enter most dimensions on the Model and transfer to Worksheet via Smartview, or do them all on the Worksheet?

If you have a very positive view either way could you also give the reasons too. I can see advantage both ways but as I am new to the worksheets I would appreciate knowing what long time users find best.

Thanks,
Allan

Morning Allan,

I do it both ways.

When I have a "Ortho" based model, I like to use auto dimensions. This way I can bring my dimensions in as a seperate smartview and even edit it, move it away completely(especially when it is a complex model) and I can still add other dimensions if I want. It is just so much faster to use auto dimension. I then also don't have to re-do the dimensions everytime I have to update the smartview. I basically do the same with smart views, once I have cleaned up a smart view, unless there are huge changes, I will open a new smart view, delete what will stay in the old smartview and only keep the changes, open the original smartview, delete the sections that has changed and just overlay the two smartviews. If neccesary, I will explode both smartviews in the end and make a new block if needed.

When I have a very "angular" model, I prefer to add the dimesions in worksheet. With the new tools to align dimensions, and to select a full wall dimension and enter continious "sub" dimensions, it goes much faster than with previous versions of Envisioneer. Unfortunately auto exterior dimensions do not insert at angles, and you can't give the builder a plan where the dimension is NOT paralell to the walls etc.

I have been using Envisioneer since version 2.5. I'm not the most clued up user, but I found this works best for me.

Regards
Stephan

Hi Stephan (good afternoon! - 2.45 pm here),

I never thought of bringing them (or updated sections) in as a separate smartview!! Sounds like an excellent idea.
That was the thing that was worrying me - replacing everything each time with the Update, hence having to redo the odd bits and pieces that had to be deleted or whatever.

Thanks!!

Still interested in thoughts from other regular users!

Yes, I also prefer to do as much as possible in the model view. Still yearning for RealLiveViews . . .

Hi Allan,

This is just a work around to not have to re-do all the work that go into working drawings. I thought that since Cadsoft seems to want to stick with "SMARTVIEWS" for now, I'll post a few RSA sents of my mind here. It would be real smart views if one can update according to a layer-setup. RE. walls, roof, windows, doors, roofs, dimensions, stairs, members, coloums, etc. It will basically work the same as my work-around, but all still in one "SMARTVIEW". I don't think it will cause too many headaches for the developers to right and extra code for that. Maybe it's so easy that we might see it in the next upgrade. Or even better, maybe we see "REAL LIVE VIEWS" in the next upgrade.....Merv dreaming...?!?!

Hi Merv,

Don't feel alone, I feel exactly the same as you. I also think, to take my idea one step further, IF they would make envisioneer walls solid(not hollow) and let us assign the hatching in sections in modelview, make sure all the lines that are not supposed to show are gone and the correct cavities are showing, they can actually link the smartviews to the model as to update automatically when any changes are made in the model. This would basically be "LIVE VIEWS".

They will of course also have to give us a more complex "export layer setup".

Greetings
