Hi Stepan,

I have found similar things from architects too. One the other day was a pull down ladder unit into a roof space was located against an outside wall where the roof pitch was 22 degrees. Even a child could not have crawled into the roof, let alone the ladder be retracted into it. Roll Eyes

In another incident, I was involved in the electrical inspection of a house some years ago. In the Laundry there was a  washing machine on one wall and two doors on the wall opposite, one to the Kitchen and the other going ouside to the closes line. The doors were six inches apart and where was the power outlet for the washing machine? You guessed it - on the sliver of wall between the two doors!  Roll Eyes The house did not pass the inspection!

When I saw the first plans for our own house (before I got into doing plans myself) they showed a wall floor to ceiling half way along the stairwell. How they expected us to get up the stairs I don't know. They also had a ballustrade along the side of the stairwell to stop anyone walking over the edge into the stairwell - fair enough but how could they fall over - there was a solid wall there, so why have a ballustrade?

Sometimes I don't think they live in the real world - its all on paper and no visualisation! They need Envisioneer!

Very nice Stephan,

You have done a great job with the model to this point. I can imagine the balance of the model will be just as good.
thanks for the sneak peak, can't wait to see more progress images.

Hi Jack,

Thanks, to all others, I just want to share something I experienced trying to create an animation for this model. I inserted the path and did a preview. That worked 100%. I then started to save it(unrendered). When it got about 2/3rds through the animation, Envisioneer stopped working. I tried all different settings etc. Nothing changed. I eventually desided to start some fault finding. I noticed that when I "hide" the main internal stairs, I could "walk" around much smoother. I then turned the staircase off and will you believe it, the animation saved. I then realised why this staircase went corrupt, I started off with a stinger-under, chaned the stingers and realised I wanted a solid staircase. I then selected solid with-in this specific staircase. From then on it was corrupted and slowed everything down drastically. The bottomline is, deside upfront about the type of staircase. It also kept on giving me an error message about the geometry plane that was below the horizon and I need to change the sun position etc. Didn't matter what I did, it would not do a photo render. Not even basic. Once the stairs were sorted, all was fine.

I have a question though: How do you guys "flare" a sircular staircase? I thought it would be easy. I would just have a different width from top to bottom. Well, Envisioneer doesn't give one that option.

At a presentation of over 30 Architects about 4 years ago, only 3 of them raised their hands when asked if they work or have worked in 3D.  I was stunned.
And to think they tend to prioritise "form" over functionality . . .

I laugh when I see Revits roof tool demonstrated on you tube.

One has to feel sorry for Revit users.

I think the Cadsoft really puts the effort into getting it's product working correctly. I'm confident that someday a better terrian option will be in place, although I do get pretty good results with Plateaus. Going live with model to sheet seems quite a bit more complicated.

I figured this comment deserved a separate thread so started http://www.cadsoft.com/forum/index.php/topic,7988.0.html
