This drives me mad all the time.

Is there a way that you can determine if your going to get an error before you render it.

And why does the software not work around this?

This error is usually due to a corrupt object in the model. If it is happening in many different models then it is most likely something in your catalog that you use fairly often. Turning off all objects except one and trying again will help you determine which one it is so you can delete it.

As far as knowing before it happens, some errors do happen right away, but with a corrupted object there is no way for it to find it before it gets to that point in the rendering.

Usual culprit is a multi-faceted sketchup model that hasn't been created properly. Take a look at any sketchup objects you have inserted and try turning them off one by one until you find the offender.

Thanks Chantale

In what way are they usually not created properly?

How do I fix the sketchup model? i.e. what am I looking for in the sketchup model that would be wrong?

I have been having the same errors, then just ever so slightly adjust I adjust my camera angle and it works just fine.  Thanks for the info.  I will check some of my sketch-up objects and see if it works better.  Great post!

Not having much look with the models to be honest!!!

Switched them all off in the filter and am still getting same error.

Do you have to actually delete them?

I'd first look carefully at the object in its originating program to check for origination problems.

Another "test" method is to create a new file, insert one object, use a checkerboard texture on the whole object, render...

If it renders OK then the object is OK

Carefully look all over the object to see that the texture applied looks correct....any holes that are not expected?  Distorted surfaces not expected? and black or not textured places not expected?

Object may not be closed correctly (holes or distorted vertex corners or overlapping surfaces?) or normals not all set to point out?

Repeat for every object.

Hiding from render should keep any object from the render solution calcs...the equivalent of delete from render without deleting from file.

I have occasionally had this happen and I never use SketchUp objects so it may not even be that.

As Natalie indicated earlier, the best way to find the problem is to turn off sections in the view filter.  Most corruptions are in wall joins and if the File/Repair Project does not fix it then it may be a question of checking each wall intersection for stray bits of wall and, if found, redo the join.  Obviously turn off the walls first and render and if it renders OK the problem is in the walls. Whenever I had the render problem it was always a wall issue.

Obviously if you repeatedly get the same problem in different projects, then it could be something you have imported into your catalogue that is the problem - so turn off Interior Accessories (maybe where most of your SKP objects are) and if it works then you know that one of the objects there is the problem. It will be a process of elimintation to find which.
