Yes, there is a trick
Best thing to do is to open up a jpeg in a program such as paint shop pro.
You will find firstly that it is a very small file size, and secondly (much harder to achieve)that it can be interlaced on all its borders seemlessly. Far easier to grab a texture.
Try 'making jpeg textures' as an online search. You should find what you are looking for
