an upmarket "Print" dialogue where the user can select which sheets need to be printed, alter their print order (& if using an inkjet select a checkbox to reverse print order), select the number of copies & whether collation is required.

Wow...what a great idea. (Even if no other CAD software does that.)

Good Morning,

I was unaware that you were referring to the program that Rickhead mentioned.

The new feature ideas that you guys are talking about sound great and I will make sure they get looked into.  However not having any programing experience I do not know how easliy this can be done.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Everyone,
Lets coin a new term for what we want, because we dont want to be involved in a law suit.
instead of BIM (Building Information Modelling). lets say...
CDME (Construction drawings made easy).
This is not a big ask, just make layouts associative of the Model, so that changes made during the modelling stage are automatically reflected in the CD's.
As for title blocks, entering information in the project manager once is fine, the numbering is done only when a new sheet is generated.
At the moment I'm producing Models easy as, I reckon version 4 should be dedicated to accurate site modeling and construction drawings to keep up with the OTHERS out there!!!
I would appreciate comments on this.
regards

A while back I suggested . . .

><snip><However, this is my dream:  (& I'm sure you can do it)
User is presented with a drop-down list of all sheets containing titleblocks.
User can then rearrange the order of those sheets just as MS Office users have been able to do on the Office toolbar since last century.
><snip><
Merv
Autodesk have set a precedent in the Publish option in DWG Viewer tm User just drags the sheets up & down at will to establish the plot order. (I might add that it crashes my desktop once it finishes the 37 sheets & tries to load the Viewer (to display the resulting dwf file) but on the lappy works a treat!
btw, just compare file sizes. pdf = 8.8MB whereas the dwf (exactly the same 37 sheets) pulls up at 907KB! But I still can't convince my consultants to use dwf. Their IT guys are paranoid about installing an ActiveX control from a company that's #47 on Software 500 with$1.3b (compared to Adobe at #37 & only $1.6b)
/end rant

G'day Alex
No-one has trademarked or copyrighted BIM so don't worry about litigation. My understanding of BIM is the additional info inherent in the 3D CAD model such as volumes for HVAC, thermal mass, energy transfer . . . it's just another buzzword. CadSoft products have had the ability to embed lots of additional data for years. Autodesk & the other dinosaurs of the CAD realm are only now starting to do this. After all, I think it took AutoCAD 10 years to develop extend & trim tools that compared to Brians!

btw, 4 letters are too hard to remember! ECD= Easy Construction Documentation.
IMHO BIM (as the US is pushing) is irrelevant to us here in Oz.
Re energy requirements of BCA, just email the plan to Bill Harrison at Q-Bears & the stuff he sends back is enough to make any certifier choke.

Good Morning Merv,

When you say will Envisioneer globally update the sheet field, do you mean will Envisioneer know that the last sheet created was 28 and the next sheet will be 29, or do you mean if sheet 23 now needs to be sheet 26 the rest of the sheets will automatically adjust and the numbers will change?

This is not a feature in Envisioneer at this time.  I also am trying to think of a program that does this with its titleblocks and I cannot think of one.  I know that I have to manually adjust the sheet numbers in AutoCAD, APDesign or Build if I need them changed.

Thanks Merv,
Nick

The program that is a perfect example for the titleblock issue as described above is Chief Architect version 10

My expectations are quite realistic!
It seems for once Cadsoft will be following instead of leading the pack.

Do you have some inside information?

G'day Rick!
I'd begun to think you'd excavated under a house & decided to hibernate there!
How I wish I had "inside information"!
My response was mainly in reply to Nick's being unaware of any CAD programme that could do what I want. I mentioned Autodesk's DWG Viewer & Max followed up with Chief v10
