the pic shows two different masonry materials on this home. (I didn't design it, but I am doing as builts for it).  what would be the best way to show the same (garage wall) with two different materials?

do i have to put two walls there, one on top of the other?

Good Afternoon,

To show a wall like this you will actually use the Trim Option and then apply a custom trim to the exterior side.  The trim that you are going to be using is a wainscot panelling and you will change the material or create a new panel and assign it to be brick.  You will make any neccessary changes to get teh height s right for that trim.  This is teh same method that is used for double veneers.

Thanks,
Nick

but it's not really an applied veneer, it is as thick as the wall above it.  if i select 4" for a thickness, it pushes it out beyond the wall by 4". which is wrong.  if i select -4" for thickness, it won't accept it as a value.

so in section view, it's all wrong

Good Morning,

Then I would give it a thickness of 1/4".  This way it will only stick out from the wall 1/4".

Thanks,
Nick

in the section view, it would be incorrect at 1/4" thick.  the masonry sits below the stone above.  how can I make the brick wall appear in the section to rest on top of the stone wall below it?

Good Afternoon,

It appears that the wall that has teh brick is located below the floor line.  This means that we can actually use the foundation location and use the brick wall there.  Then we will lower the terrain height under Settings > Terrain Settings to be -3'.  Then we can apply the right materials to the walls.  I then added in a crown molding on the exterior sdie of the foundation wall.  I created a new material from one of the bricks and created a brick band.  I will attach both teh image of teh brick band as well as the picture.  If you want the file that I created then let me know and I will send it.

Thanks,
Nick

i TRIED WHAT YOU SUGGESTED.  BUT NOW IN THE SECTION, I HAVE TWO WALLS INSTEAD OF ONE.  THE INSIDE WALL WOULD BE CONTINUOUS STUDS, THE EXTERIOR IS WHERE THE BRICK AND STONE WOULD CHANGE.

CAN YOU DO THAT?

TIA

It seems that the only way for the program to do what you need would be to have the ability to break a wall horizontally. Then you could apply different materials to the upper and lower walls and they would show up with the proper thickness. Is this even possible?

If so, I would like to add to the wishlist the ability to break a selected wall horizontally.

Edit: Or what about being able to break only the exterior material horizontally and vertically in stead of the entire wall? Would that be possible?

Ping. Can the Shower Door-above-Curb be rectified with this theory?

Haven't seen BJLarson for awhile, either...either these guys have mastered E3.0 and haven't told us or they've broken out their mechanical pencils once again...

Good Morning,

Which theory are you talking about, the theory of making a wall break horizontally?  I will try and create a drawing for you to view so that you can see what I did to create the shower that you are trying to achieve.

Thanks,
Nick
